Commenting on the startup, Mr. Alina Truhina, CEO and Managing Partner of The Radical Fund, said that Alternō is currently the first thermal battery manufacturer (FOAK) and the only startup. on short-term energy storage (LDTES) for agricultural purposes in Southeast Asia. After deploying in Vietnam, the startup’s potential is huge when targeting markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East

Startup Alternō has just successfully raised more than 1,5 million USD from many investment funds, exceeding its seed round mobilization target. This is a rare Vietnamese startup in the climate technology segment, with the main product being sand batteries serving agricultural production.

This system uses a patented technology containing insulating sand with custom-made heat pipes. When in use, the heat from the sand battery will be transferred through the pipeline to serve the needs of drying, heating or heating.

The demand for thermal energy in the agricultural sector is increasing. In that context, the sand battery developed by Alternō helps store energy and does not pollute the environment like Lithium batteries.

Alternō is currently developing industrial versions of sand batteries with large capacities, from 250 kWh to 1,8 MW. This process is expected to be accelerated further after Alternō receives capital from many investment funds such as The Radical Fund, Touchstone, Antler, Impact Square… and funding from international organizations.

Because it is a sustainable, environmentally friendly energy solution, Alternō has previously received funding from many international organizations, including 250.000 USD from the Temasek Foundation and 350.000 USD from P4G. In addition, Vietnamese startups also receive support from organizations such as JETRO, Qualcomm, NUS, Leave A Nest, BSSC, IBP, Hanns Seidel Foundation, Climate Launchpad, VSV, ASSIST, New Energy Nexus.

According to founder Ho Viet Hai, the sand battery solution not only contributes to reducing carbon emissions in the agricultural industry, but also helps Vietnamese companies increase competitiveness in the international market with products that meet standards. green of the world.

The investment cost for a Make in Viet Nam sand battery system is less than 500 million VND. During operation, the sand battery system is monitored and the algorithm updated remotely by the development team, at the Ho Chi Minh City headquarters.

User feedback shows that, in models deployed in Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong, Alternō’s sand batteries provide a stable heat source, not affected by weather conditions, so they can meet the drying capacity. continuously for the farm.

In areas without grid electricity, many farmers have chosen solar panel systems with sand batteries to store alternative thermal energy for drying agricultural products, instead of having to draw electricity for use.
